“Amazing” dance brings in over £5k

A recent fundraiser in Glassel hall raised over £5,000 for a charity “very close” to the organiser’s heart.

The event featured a live band and raffles with a total that she described as “absolutely amazing”

Lumphanan woman Pauline Robertson held the Glassel gig in aid of charity Motor Neurone Disease Scotland after her father died of the illness six months ago.

Not being one to be beaten Pauline set up the night to raise money to fight the disease.

She told the Piper: “It was an absolutely amazing total that came from the night and I can’t thank everyone who helped enough. We thought we would struggle to raise £1000, since there was no bar, so we were chuffed to say the least!”

Motor neurone disease is an incurable and debilitating disorder that tends to kill patients relatively soon after diagnosis.

It is caused by nerve cells breaking down, leading the sufferer to lose control of their muscles and becoming unable to speak, eat or walk.

Pauline said voice breaking: “(Fundraising) is my way of coping with it. It is very painful to watch someone you love deteriorate like that.”

Another night is planned for June 15 in Inverurie. “Hopefully we can hit the jackpot again!” she added.
