Christmas crafts raise cash

Banchory Cubs held another successful Christmas fayre in November.

Both the Tuesday and Wednesday Cub packs had worked hard at creating Christmas crafts in the form of Christmas herbs, nifty notebooks, pocket pebble pets and homemade wrapping paper to sell at the fayre to support this year’s chosen charity, SCILL (Supporting Children In Learning for Life).

During the fayre, the Cubs manned the many pocket money stalls. The Scouts took part selling bird tables and the Beavers had a very popular dexterity challenge stall. The Guides also attended, selling potted bulbs.

Entertainment was provided by the Beavers, performing a show, and by Cubs and Scouts playing a variety of instruments which ensured everyone had a memorable afternoon.

Santa made a welcome appearance too and was kept very busy in his beautiful grotto.

Ann Law, a member of SCILL came to the Cubs’ joint Burns Night last week to receive a cheque for £1,125 from Banchory Cubs.

Ann said SCILL worked in partnership with parents/carers, education professionals, health professionals and other agencies to increase awareness and understanding of various difficulties and their impact on children’s progress and to highlight practical strategies which can help make learning easier for children so that each child with additional support needs can be helped to reach their full potential.

Ann said: ”SCILL is so grateful to all the wonderful Cubs, Scouts, Beaver, leaders and helpers who gave their time so generously to make the Christmas fayre such an astonishing success, which contributed to raise this fantastic total. On behalf of SCILL, thank you very much!”

This is the third Christmas fayre organised by Banchory Cubs. Last year, they raised £1,000 for Carronhill Special School and the previous year, £600 for Children 1st. The aim is to choose a different children’s charity each year so the Cubs gain an appreciation of those children less fortunate than themselves.
