£2.5m campaign for new surgical equipment
Fiona JD Pearson – UCAN fundraising manager and consultant Nick Cohen gave a joint presentation on new high tech surgery to Banchory-Ternan Rotary Club.
UCAN, the North-east’s well-known urological cancer charity is spearheading a £2.5M fundraising campaign to purchase Scotland’s first robotically assisted keyhole surgical system and fund a suite with two integrated operating theatres by 2013.
This state of the art advanced technological equipment will be used by urological, gynaecological and general surgery teams at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, potentially benefitting all patients in the North-east who require a specialised operation.
Nick outlined aspects of the new technology and the advantages in relation to the increased number of operations which could be carried out and also the reduced recovery times for patients. Fiona outlined a number of ways in which the public can help in terms of fund raising support such as coffee mornings and car treasure hunts.
See campaign website at www.ucanhelp.org.uk <http://www.ucanhelp.org.uk/> for more information.
Rotarian David Needham gave the vote of thanks and handed over a personal cheque towards the campaign, from the sale of his golf clubs, having given up playing.
