A testing 24 hour outdoor challenge

A Deeside engineer is part of a team which will attempt to climb thirteen Munros (hills over 3,00ft) in a 24-hour period.

Steve Fogg, who lives at Dess near Aboyne, will join up to fifteen team members in the 13 in 24 Team’s challenge in May.

Starting at the base of the Glenshiel Ridge, the team will bag seven Munros before tackling the five sisters of Kintale, three of which are Munros. The challenge ends with a jaunt up Saileag, Sgurr a Bhealaich Dheirg and Aonach Mheachoin, covering around thirty miles and scaling over 16,000 feet of uphill walking, the equivalent height of Mont Blanc. The hike takes the group a step further than a similar expedition in 2011 when they accomplished the well known 4 Peak Challenge for charity, raising over £8,500 for Cancer Research UK.

Richard O’ Brien, leader of the project, said: “This is a great way to push ourselves to the limits and raise money for two great causes at the same time. We are looking forward to raising a huge amount of money for both Inspire and Make a Wish Foundation, smashing our previous fundraising amount from 2011.”

The group will be throwing a launch party on Friday, February 17 at Inspire on Aberdeen’s Beach Boulevard. Starting at 8pm till late, all are welcome with all proceeds from the bar on the night going directly to Inspire. Inspire is a leading charity providing support to individuals with learning disabilities throughout North-east Scotland.
