Befrienders turn up the heat

Kincardine & Deeside Befriending and the Scottish Community Foundation have been working together on a project named “Surviving the Winter Grant”.

The purpose of this grant was to assist older people in the community who were unable to heat their homes sufficiently, during the winter months, through lack of finances.

K & D Befriending said they carried out fifteen visits to people who were potentailly in need of the grant and after assessing their needs eight became recipients.

One beneficiary, who asked not to be named, said: “I suffer from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and my doctor told me to heat my whole house evenly. However I couldn’t afford to do this.

I will be able to now because of this grant. It was so nice that I was able to have a warm Christmas and New Year – the first time in a long while.”

Anyone who is interested in becoming a volunteer with K & D Befriending and wants to help to make a difference to an older person, should contact Brigitte, senior co-ordinator on 01569 765714, Sheena, Deeside Co-ordinator on 01330 823368 or 07816958839 or contact their website www.kdbefriendiong.org.uk
