A Banchory based tutor is signing the praises of singing and urging anyone who enjoys humming around the house or belting out a favourite melody in the bath to join a weekly group.

Tara Leiper is well known in Banchory and Deeside as a teacher and musician and is currently the musical director of local mixed voice choir, Banchory Singers.

Tara is running a weekly group for people who wish to try out singing and who may lack confidence in using their voice.

She says:” Singing is a social and cultural activity. It is challenging and inspiring and also helps to promote physical and mental well-being . Within a group you can explore your vocal potential and musical aspirations in a judgement-free environment.”

She adds:” All ages and abilities are most welcome and if you are feeling a little nervous, bring along a friend and have some fun together.”

A wide range of music styles will be catred for including popular music, music theatre, traditional songs, Gilbert and Sullivan, classical and any others that participants want to try.

Courses run for eleven weeks and the group meets on Thursdays, 11.30am -12.30pm in the Episcopal Church hall in Banchory, starting from August 30.

Tara has been teaching and performing for more than 25 years and is also an examiner for London College of Music.
