Interest free loan scheme to SMEs
Moira Gash Chair of the FSB's Deeside branch with Dennis Robertson Aberdeenshire West MSP
MSP Dennis Robertson has welcomed £2.5million funding that will finance interest free loans to small businesses to help them install renewables technologies.
Last week, Energy Minister Fergus Ewing announced the Scottish Government’s small business loans scheme which will offer loans of up to £100,000 to help save energy.
Moira Gash, chair of Deeside branch of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), said: “With energy costs going through the roof, the FSB would encourage local members to make a bid for this cash.”
SNP MSP for West Aberdeenshire, Dennis Roberston says he led the campaign for the UK Government to stop taxing rural communities’ energy needs and to recognise that the renewables industry needs a boost and needs to operate in an attractive, transparent and stable fiscal regime.
He added: “ Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have already benefitted from loans worth £2.5m this past financial year, so this new round of funding brings that total to £5m that has been committed. Following the sudden plans of the UK Government to half the subsidy to small-scale solar electricity suppliers, this new funding will help the solar electricity sector to survive and for more SMEs across Aberdeenshire to lower their energy bills as well as to increase competitiveness.
“Not only will those businesses that install small scale renewables technologies have their own green energy supply but they will also qualify to receive payment for supplying electricity to the national grid.”
