Police want cadets

Grampian Police has launched its latest recruitment drive for a new intake of police cadets and briefing sessions will be held in Banchory next month.

The cadets - whose cadetship will run between August 2012 and August 2013 - will gain experience of working with a number of departments within Grampian Police.

They will also experience placements with other agencies such as Buchan Dial-A-Bus, Cornerstone Community Care and the North East Sensory Service.

Those with a birthday between 1 May 1995 and 1 November 1995 are eligible to apply and should contact Grampian Police Recruitment Unit on 01224 306683/4 or 01224 306663 during office hours to request an application form and book on a candidate briefing session.

Depending on successful completion of the cadet programme - and subject to additional selection criteria - cadets may be able to apply to become a police officer when they reach 18-years-old.

During the year of their cadetship, cadets will undertake a ‘Developing Community Citizenship’ qualification - accredited by the Scottish Qualification Authority.

Chief Inspector Richard Craig said: “Becoming a cadet is an extremely rewarding path for young people to take. Through a cadetship, young people can really develop their skills for entering the working world – whether it be as a police constable, or in another career path.

“The selection process is challenging with successful candidates having to obtain a pass in the Police Standard Entrance Test, a fitness test, an assessment day and undertake a medical. We hope this helps to ensure that successful candidates have the initial skills which we can then nurture and develop.

“We would urge anyone who is eligible and interested to give us a call and sign up to one of our candidate briefing sessions.”

Candidate briefing sessions will be held at Banchory on March 1, Stonehaven on March 8 and in Aberdeen on March 2 and 7. and individuals who are considering applying are recommended to attend one of these prior to submitting an application form. These will be in the evenings and last approximately 90 minutes. Places must be booked in advance.

The deadline for applications is Monday, March 26 and competition for places is expected to be keen.
