Generosity brings Christmas cheer

The generosity of individuals and communities across Aberdeenshire will help an additional 140 local vulnerable children and families celebrate Christmas this year.

North-east charity, Instant Neighbour, teamed up with Westhill-based housebuilder, Stewart Milne Homes, in November to launch an additional five donation sites for its annual Giving Tree Appeal and give more communities the opportunity to get involved.

Now in its 22nd year, the Giving Tree Appeal urges people to add just one more name to the Christmas list in a bid to ensure every child across Aberdeen and Shire has a gift to open this festive holiday.

Since the launch of this year’s campaign, the housebuilder has been hosting dedicated Giving Trees at various showhomes across the region and has received an outstanding response from residents, visitors and staff alike.

In just four weeks, over 140 gifts have been donated at the Giving Trees at Silver Birches in Alford, The Grange at Broadshade in Westhill, Stewart Milne Homes’ HQ in Westhill, Vision near Mugiemoss and The Fairways in Portlethen.

Commenting on the success of the initiative, Mike Cowie, sales director of Stewart Milne Homes North Scotland, said: “The uptake we have experienced is remarkable, especially at our Silver Birches showhome in Alford and at The Fairways in Portlethen.

“Staff, customers, visitors and local residents have all shown such generosity. We are so pleased to be able to make a difference to the community and are already making plans for next year.”

Instant Neighbour chief executive, Sophy Green, added: “This is a great result; we are thrilled with how enthusiastically people have responded to our cause.

“The wide spread of Stewart Milne Homes developments continues to work really well for the appeal, enabling us to reach so much more of Aberdeenshire, particularly residential areas, which is ideal.”
