Golfers’ guide for region published

The importance of golf tourism to Aberdeen City and Shire is highlighted by the publication of the latest golf guide for the region.

The comprehensive guide, produced by VisitScotland as part of the national tourism agency’s dedicated golf marketing programme which targets golfers throughout the UK and in key international markets, features all 56 golf courses in Aberdeen City and Shire as well as a number of golfer friendly accommodation providers in the area.

The guide, with a print run of 15,000, will be the key element of marketing Aberdeen City and Shire as a golf destination, used in direct mailings and to fulfil enquiries generated by advertising.

VisitScotland Regional Director Shona Anderson said: “Golf tourism is a major contributor to Scotland’s economy, worth an estimated £220 million overall to Scotland annually and supporting around 4,000 jobs. For every £1 spent on green fees, a further £5 is spent on extras such as hotels, restaurants and retail.

“Scotland attracts around 220,000 golfing visitors annually, while an estimated 92,000 ‘regular’ visitors to Scotland will also play golf whilst on holiday. It is a valuable part of the Aberdeen City and Shire economy and it is imperative we build on our strengths to continue to attract visitors to the region.”
