Barn welcomes Ceilidh Trail
The 2012 Cairngorms Ceilidh Trail band is pictured.
The Cairngorms Cèilidh Trail is part of Fèisean nan Gàidheal’s Ceilidhean air Cuairt Slighean Ura (Ceilidh Trails—New Routes) project.
The first Cèilidh Trail project, established by Fèis Rois in 1999, was designed to help teenage musicians develop their performance skills and to create a vibrant traditional music entertainment programme in the Highlands and now beyond.
The Cairngorms Cèilidh Trail, now in its sixth year, offers training and performance opportunities to musicians aged 16 to 22.
Some of them may be considering a career in traditional music and the tour gives them a supported taste of life on the road whilst sharing their skills and enthusiasm with a wide audience.
The Ceilidh Trail works with local businesses and promoters to develop cultural tourism throughout the National Park.
They tour the National Park and surrounding area for two weeks in July then a week between Christmas and New Year.
The 2012 band includes Kirsten Forsyth, from Westhill, as well as people from Aberlour, Perth, Kingussie, Edinburgh, Insh and Newtonmore.
On Wednesday, July 18, from noon to 2pm, free sessions will be held at Buchanan’s Bistro, Woodend Barn.
From 8pm the same day, a concert/ceilidh will be held at the barn. Tickets are £5/conc £3 in advance, or £6/£4 on the door. Call Woodend Barn’s box office on (01330) 825431 for tickets.
