Jubilee concert in Braemar church

The spectacular architecture of St Margaret’s Episcopal Church in Braemar, Sir John Ninian Comper’s masterpiece, will be the setting for a celebration of Scottish music, song and drama on the Sunday evening of the Jubilee weekend.
The concert will feature Paul Anderson, regarded as the finest Scots fiddler of his generation, alongside local lass Ellie McLaren, traditional singer Shona Donaldson, the’ Voices of Deeside’ choir, accomplished tenor Colin Hunter and local drama from the pen of the late Charles Barron performed by well-respected Aberdeen actresses, Yvonne Morton and Jill Hay.
The concert is part of a drive by the local community to revitalise and find a new purpose for this magnificent building which has lain unused for almost 20 years.
The arrival of Queen Victoria on Deeside was the reason for the construction of the church and 164 years later it is to be part of the celebrations for another queen who has lived to celebrate her Diamond Jubilee.
Proceeds from the concert will go to another community venture, Braemar Castle.
Roof repairs are now urgent at the 17th century castle and the community has pledged to raise £20,000 towards the work.
The concert begins at 7.30. Admission is £5 for adults and £3 for children
