Scottish Ensemble in Aboyne
Scottish Ensemble
The Scottish Ensemble, the UK’s only professional string orchestra, bring their trademark energy and verve to Aboyne for a performance at Aboyne Community Centre on Saturday (June 9).
The programme includes Debussy’s Marche écossaise, which draws its inspiration from Scottish-influenced themes with a Gallic lilt; Rudolf Barhsai’s renowned arrangement of Ravel’s string quartet, which was greatly admired by Debussy; and Schumann’s String Quartet No. 3 arranged by Scottish Ensemble Artistic Director, Jonathan Morton.
This mix of classics of the string repertoire, new arrangements of smaller chamber works and more rarely performed gems is representative of the sort of unusual and stimulating programming that the Ensemble is known for.
General Manager of the Scottish Ensemble, Thorben Dittes, says:“The Ensemble’s size and versatility mean we are ideally suited to visiting smaller venues and communities across Scotland. We really look forward to these intimate performances which often attract very enthusiastic audiences from far and wide. The programme this year will be a rich mix of Impressionism and Romanticism and will showcase the powerful energy of the string sound.”
For tickets ( 7.30pm) are £10 / £5 students / free for under 16s call 01339 886222 or in person at the venue.
