Sign up for Cairngorms Ceilidh Trail

Fèis Spè is once again inviting young traditional musicians to apply for a place on the 2012 Cairngorms Cèilidh Trail.

Established in 2007, the CCT offers training and performance opportunities for 16 to 22-year-old instrumentalists, singers and dancers of intermediate or advanced abilities, working with professional musicians and playing at a variety of venues throughout the Cairngorms National Park in July.

The first five years of the CCT have been an outstanding success, with many venues requesting repeat visits from the band and a number of the past members going on to become full-time music students or professional musicians.

The summer tour in July will include venues for concerts and sessions from Kingussie and Aviemore in the west side of the Park, Tarland and Braemar in the East, Glen Esk to the South and Blair Atholl in Highland Perthshire.

Previous years’ bands have seen a wide variety of instruments included – fiddle, whistle, flute, big and small pipes, clarsach, keyboard, cello, guitar, percussion, bass and accordion among them. Singers of both Gaelic and Scots song and Step and Highland dancers have also featured.

Applications are now open – details are available from the Fèis Spè website: www.feisspe.org.uk and completed forms must be received by March 23.

* Members of the band Breabach are taking time out of their busy tour schedule to run a Fèis day in Braemar School on March 30.

All children will have the opportunity to take part in traditional instrument, song and dance sessions. In the evening, the pupils will perform an opening song to Breabach’s concert in Braemar Village Hall at 8pm. Concert tickets can be bought by calling (013397) 41439.
