PLANS for this year's Grampian Motorcycle Convention are nearing completion and organisers are hoping for another successful event.
According to them, the convention - which takes place at Alford's Grampian Transport Museum on September 7 - has grown from its vintage and classic roots into one of the most celebrated motorcycle shows in Scotland.
The event offers a broad spread of motorcycling activity concentrated into an action-packed day at the museum's specially-developed arena.
For a second year, the event has been sponsored by solicitors Digby Brown, who are bringing extra attractions this year, most notably in the form of former world stunt champion, Kevin Carmichael, who will defy the laws of physics on his Triumph machines during two 25-minute arena displays.
For many, the highlight of the event is the Scottish Championship Moped Marathon. This was the first ever moped racing in Scotland and involves 50cc machines lapping a special course for two heats and a 30 minute final.
Entries - attracting teams from all over Scotland and even south of the border - range from the totally ridiculous to serious attempts at high performance.
The Moped mayhem is kept in balance by a heavy emphasis on motorcycle training and safety. Grampian Police and rider training schools use the event to showcase safety issues and the services they provide.
There will also be motorcycle club stands, children's rides, trade stands, refreshment stalls and the museum itself.
Parking for both cars and motorcycles is free, with a free bus service from the car park.
The event runs from 11am to 5pm.
As this is a speed event no dogs (except guide dogs) are allowed within the perimeter.
