A SAUCHEN mum who pulled on her trainers again after 20 years has raised £350 for Cancer Research UK by running the Race for Life.
Debbie Benzie, 37, completed the run at Aberdeen beach on Sunday (June 22) in 30 minutes 33 seconds - in the pouring rain - raising vital and potentially life-saving funds for the cancer charity.
"Although the weather was truly appalling - it came close to being a swim rather than a run - the turnout was good and spirits were high amongst the participants and their supporters, particularly those supporters clad from top to bottom with waterproof clothing and clutching a brolly," said sales consultant Debbie, of The Linton.
"There were all ages, shapes and sizes but everyone was there to give it their best shot and do what they could to raise funds for the cancer charity."
Debbie, mum to Chloe, 22 months, added: "I only started running a few weeks ago so to run the full 5K was a personal achievement for me - I've not done any running for about 20 years! Now I have run my first 5K I intend to continue - my next goal is to complete a 10K!
"However, my main aim was to raise funds for Cancer Research and with the help of my family and friends, my current total stands at £350. Thanks to everyone who has donated so far.
"Like a large number of people, I have seen the impact of cancer amongst those close to you and feel that any activities which assist in raising money to support research into cancer can only lead to good - so any opportunity you get to support events such as the Race for Life then please do so!"
Debbie was supported on the day by husband Scott, 40, and father-in-law, Willie Benzie.
