Aboyne home wins design award
Westerton Wood in Aboyne
A bronze statue of a cow, a former mill and a restored Georgian Terrace are among those which received the highest accolade at this year’s Design Awards, courtesy of Aberdeenshire Council.
Six entries received Distinctions at the biennial event, which was held at Haddo House.
These included the Turra Coo in Turriff; the Huntly Arms Hotel; Threadneedle Street in Peterhead; Mill of Eslie in Strachan; Westerton Wood in Aboyne and The Goat Shed in Tarves.
Westerton Wood was the outstanding winner of the evening and took the top prize of the Ian Shepherd award for the quality of its execution and its positive impact on the wider environment.
Judges said the self-built residential property, which combined a red corrugated iron roof, locally sourced stone and larch cladding, set a “benchmark” for future projects in Aberdeenshire.
