Alford bike run raises over £3k

Cyclists set off on the Alford KT bike run

over £3000 was raised at the annual Alford KT Bike run.

The event was held in beautiful weather and over 200 riders completed the 27 mile or 13 mile run.

The event started and finished at Alford Transport Museum with a BBQ ready for the bikers’ return.

There was a raffle for a bicycle and it was a winning day for the Goodlad family.

Mr Goodlad won the raffle and his son Lewis had the fastest time on the 27 mile run of 1 hour 17 minutes.

The fastest lady rider on the 27 mile run was Jen McWilliam with 1 hour 28 minutes.

Adam Frances completed the 13 mile run in 50 minutes.

The run was organised by Alford Rotary Club with help from previous organisers Isobel and Phil Murray and an army of volunteers.

The organising committee chair Stuart Todd thanked on behalf of the Rotary Club all the sponsors and helpers that made the day such a great success.

Well over £3000 was raised on the day but this total will be bolstered once the sponsorship monies are handed in.

The beneficiaries this year are CLAN, Books Abroad, Aberdeen Life Education Centres and Rotary’s own charity, Foundation.

The cheques are traditionally presented at the Alford Christmas Light switch-on in November.

It was a great event and the riders praised the high standard of organisation.
