Alford WRI celebrates 90 years!

THE February meeting of the Alford Branch saw members celebrate the 90th anniversary of Alford Rural, with a party in the Haughton Hotel.

Mrs Isobel Balfour, President, welcomed Mrs Jessie Milne, Aberdeenshire Federation Chairperson and Ms Pat Jennings, Alford Group Chairperson as guests for the evening, along with more than forty members past and present.

Mrs Milne gave a very interesting talk on her lifetime's experience of the Rural. This was followed by a tasty meal, which everyone enjoyed. The birthday cake was cut by Mrs Madge Robb, a faithful and long standing member, and served with coffee.

The company was then treated to a most enjoyable musical interlude, with songs from Mr Hector Riddell, winner of the Macallan Bowl for bothy ballad singing, and Cath Yeats on the accordion.

Mrs Balfour and Mrs Moyra Mitchell had set out a display of photos from bygone days, as well as cards and good wishes from members who were unable to attend.

Ruth Gibson gave the votes of thanks, after which the happy and successful celebration drew to a close with the singing of Auld Lang Syne.
