Appeal for info after dog found

The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a dog who appears to have recently given birth was found on a country road in Aberdeenshire.

A concerned member of the public handed the female black lab cross into the charity’s Aberdeenshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre on Sunday (September 2) after she ran in front of their car on a road between Banchory and Alford.

The young dog has been named Doris by Scottish SPCA staff.

Chief Inspector John Carle said: “Doris is still quite swollen with enlarged teats which are producing discharge so it’s possible she has recently been nursing puppies, although she could be experiencing a false pregnancy.

“At this stage it is unclear how she came to be alone on a remote country road.

“It may be that she has strayed from home but we also have to consider that she might have been abandoned there.

“If she has recently given birth, we would be concerned that her pups are without their mum right now.

“We are appealing to the public to help us with our enquiries and are very keen to hear from anyone who recognises Doris.”

Anyone with information about Doris is being urged to contact the Scottish SPCA Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
