Army lend a hand for cancer charity
Soldiers from the Royal Guard joined the army of volunteers supporting CLAN Cancer Support when the charity found itself in a tricky situation.
The introduction of a new therapy bed to the CLAN centre in Ballater posed a logistical challenge as staff faced the prospect of hiring specialists to manoeuvre the equipment into position.
When Army chiefs were alerted to the problem they sprang into action and assembled a team of troops to tackle the mission.
Gemma Powell, Aberdeenshire services co-ordinator for CLAN, said: “The soldiers are stationed at the barracks in Ballater, on duty at Balmoral, and we were delighted when they offered to help.
“It was a really awkward task to get the bed up the stairs to the centre and without the Army’s help we would have had to spend money on hiring a removal team.
“Now the bed is in place we are able to expand the range of complementary therapies available in Ballater, all part of our efforts to increase the services to clients on Deeside.”
Aromatherapy, Reiki and reflexology is available, free of charge, to anyone affected by cancer. Appointments can be made by dropping into the centre in Ballater or by phoning CLAN on 01339 756318.
