Calling all redheads!

To celebrate the cinema release of Disney•Pixar’s Brave, the National Trust for Scotland is calling on redheads to take part in the first ever ‘Ginger Snap’ – a flashmob of flame-haired folk - at Drum Castle on Friday 3 August at noon.

The ‘snap’ will assemble in the historic courtyard at the castle and loose an arrow as Merida, the flame-haired heroine, does so skilfully in the film which is released in Scotland on 3 August.

Drum Castle is one of Scotland’s oldest intact buildings and boasts a tower dating from the 14th century. Scotland’s turbulent history has left a lasting mark on the landscape in shape of the many castles, fortresses and tower houses that pepper the countryside. These imposing places all have the power to fire the imagination and there’s undoubtedly a little bit of each of these in Brave’s Castle DunBroch.

Property Manager Alison Burke will be on-hand to welcome red-heads to Drum Castle.

She said: “As an auburn-haired maiden, charged with the care of a romantic and beautiful castle, I certainly relate to Merida. We want as many redheads to come along and help us celebrate the release of Brave, celebrate history and make a bit of history too, with this Scottish first!

“Aberdeenshire has the country’s highest concentration of red hair, so we are hoping for an impressive turn out!”

Redheads of all ages are welcome to get involved in the event which will last no more than half an hour. They will then enjoy free entry to the historic Drum Castle.

Drum Castle and Estate has the unique combination of 13th-century square tower, a Jacobean mansion house and the additions of the Victorian lairds making it unique among Scottish castles.

Inside, there is superb furniture, fine paintings and magnificent views from the battlements of the Forest of Drum and the countryside beyond while, outside, visitors can explore the beautiful Garden of Historic Roses, woodland trails and a children’s playground.
