Chance for kids to design front cover

Youngsters from Deeside and Donside primary schools are being challenged to come up with an award winning design for the front cover of this year’s Aberdeen International Youth Festival (AIYF) brochure.

With a prize worth £500 for the winning artwork, pupils from primaries 1-7 are being asked to create an iconic design that will be carried on the front cover of 30,000 festival brochures.

The challenge is one of many brand new initiatives by AIYF organisers in recognition of the festival’s 40th anniversary celebrations.

There will also be four runners-up prizes worth £50 each, a city centre exhibition of the best pieces and an opportunity for pupils to work with real artists to come up with the best designs.

The winning design will also be used on thousands of promotional materials that will be seen all across the city during the 40th festival which takes place on August 1-11 this year.

The first prize of £500 is made up of £100 worth of festival passes to attend AIYF shows and a £400 cash donation to the winning school that could be used for new art materials.

The winner and all the runners up will have their artworks exhibited at Aberdeen Art Gallery as part of the Aberdeen Artists Society exhibition held in May. A further exhibition of the best selected artwork form a variety of schools is planned to go on display at the John Lewis store in Aberdeen from July through to the end of the festival.

Entries must be received at the festival office by April 1st. To enter visit the festival website for more details: www.aiyf.org
