Concert to boost church campaign

A NORWEGIAN male choir is performing in Lumphanan to help the ongoing church campaign.

Top vocalists from Stavanger's Hyttetu Men's Choir will be making a flying visit to the village to raise funds for the Heritage Society.

This Sunday's ( June 27) concert starts at 3pm in the Lumphanan Hall and Hyttetu will be performing a range of Scottish, shanties, folk and Norwegain music.

The choir is in Scotland for the Scottish Traditional Boat Festival in Portsoy.

Villager Inge Borg, who is the sister of the choir's musical director convinced the group to show their talents at the concert on Sunday.

They will be joined on stage by Lumphanan musicians Brian, Jennifer and Callum Crookshank, and singer Linda Morrison.

Organised by the Lumphanan Gala Committee, proceeds from the event will go towards the village's Heritage Society campaign to save the church.

The Heritage Society want to turn the church building into a heritage centre, focusing on the village's connection to MacBeth.

The building was deemed unnecessary by the Prebytery of Kincardine and Deeside, and it is the Church of Scotland who will make a decision on the sale of the church.

Secretary of both committees, Irene Thompson said: "We are still waiting to hear from the Church of Scotland. "Although it has been a long time waiting and we don't know when we will, at least we know there is nothing happening to the church just now. We will continue to raise funds and working on things behind the scenes."

Tickets for the concert can be bought on Sunday, and are priced 3.
