Deeside Academies are top of the class

Two Deeside secondary schools are in the top ten best state schools in Scotland for Higher results, according to new figures.

Banchory and Cults Academies were placed eighth and ninth respectively in a list of academies ranked by percentage of pupils achieving Higher grades in 2013.

According to figures published by Education Scotland last Wednesday (December 18) 42% of Banchory pupils were awarded five or more Highers and 40% of Cults Academy pupils.

At the Banchory school 62% of pupils got at three or more Highers and 80% got at least one.

60% of Cults pupils got three or more and 74% got at least a single Higher qualification.

The two schools regularly rank highly on ‘best’ lists including the Times Educational Supplement.

Banchory Academy, with a roll of over 800, sees 61% of its leavers head for higher education while Cults sees 62%.

Bearsden Academy in East Dunbartonshire came top of the list.
