Donside road closed for another three weeks
A road closure on the A944 road, at Forbestown, Bellabeg, Strathdon is being extended for a further three week period.
The section of road was closed at the beginning of September for remedial works to be carried out to stabilise an embankment following a landslip in April which restricted the road to single file traffic.
Three diversion routes remain in place to ensure that vehicles are directed onto the most appropriate road for their size and weight.
Businesses in the area can still be accessed while the work takes place.
The road is now expected to reopen by Monday, November 19.Remedial works involve reconstructing the collapsed embankment using a “reinforced earth” technique that consists of placing earth fill wrapped in layers of geo-textile.
The technique is designed to enhance the long-term stability of the embankment while allowing it to be constructed with a steeper side slope than normal, with the added benefit of reconstruction without diversion of the River Don or realignment of the road.
Aberdeenshire Council’s Head of Roads & Landscape Services, Philip McKay,said: “We are making every effort to have the works completed in the shortest possible timescale, but adverse weather conditions have caused unavoidable delays.
“We apologise for the inconvenience caused by the closure of this essential route. It is important to be aware that access is still available to local businesses.”
