Donside couple wins £4.5m lottery jackpot
A Donside couple who won the Lotto jackpot have collected a £4.5million cheque that will change their lives.
Lonach Pipe Band stalwart Duncan Davidson and his wife, Sheila, travelled from their home at Forbes, Bridge of Alford to Ardoe House Hotel on Wednesday to pick up their winnings.
Mrs Davidson checked last Saturday’s winning numbers the following day and the numbers of 1, 23, 24, 31, 45 and 49 meant the couple were the single winners of the Lotto millions.
The 53-year-old grandmother picked up the lucky dip ticket from the local Keystore newsagent and Heather Pirie, who owns the shop on Alford’s Main Street with husband George, was delighted with the news.
Mrs Pirie said: “It is exciting, great news and it certainly couldn’t have be won by a nicer couple. Everyone is really pleased for them.”
Mr and Mrs Davidson have two daughters, Lynne, 31, and Carol, 29.
Mr Davidson, who works for a local roofing firm, has been a member of the Lonach Pipe Band since his youth. Mrs Davidson’s father, John, was secretary to the Lonach Society at Strathdon for almost a decade, and a stalwart of the Lonach Games at Strathdon.
The couple’s lucky draw is the second major win for the village in under two years.
In April 2010, Robert and Susan McIntosh, from Muir of Fowlis, celebrated a £4.4 million win when Mr McIntosh bought a lucky dip ticket as he popped in to the village Co-op for frozen scampi for tea.
