Easter fun for young people in Aberdeenshire

A variety of exiting activities is being provided for young people across Aberdeenshire this Easter.

Skiing, snowboarding and karting are on offer, as well as more mellow activities such as bowling, archery and the cinema.

The grand finale, the 'Aberteenshire Activity Day', ends the holiday programme with a fun-filled day of sports, Laser Quest, bouncy boxing and much more.

Education, Learning and Leisure Committee chairman, Councillor Richard Stroud, said: "The council's P7-S4 programme offers an amazing variety of activities for young people across Aberdeenshire.

"I urge young people to make the most of this programme and participate in activities like cross country skiing and Segway riding as it may be a rare opportunity for some."

Transport is also being arranged to make access to activities even easier. There are ten pick up points across Aberdeenshire, including Banchory ( Banchory Academy, car park Raemoir Road) and Westhill (Westhill Community Centre, reception).

All entry fees, equipment, instruction, supervision and transport are included in the price of events, which mainly costs 15, with some priced at 25 due to extra expenses.

As this is expected to be a popular programme, places must be booked in advance in order to participate.

As well as providing entertainment for young people during the holidays, there are benefits for parents too, as the activity days can be used to complement any childcare arrangements – early drop-offs and late pick-ups are on offer to help with parents' working schedules.

The holiday programme encourages youngsters to get out and enjoy life, while getting fit and healthy, at a reasonable price.

Committee Vice-chair, Councillor Isobel Davidson, said: "By encouraging youngsters to get involved with physical activities we are promoting a healthy lifestyle, which will hopefully stand them in good stead in later years."

The programme runs from Monday, March 29 - Wednesday, April 7.
