TWO local donations were made to a group dedicated to supporting a youngster born with a rare genetic condition which means he is extremely sensitive to UV rays.

Deeside Dance School raised £565 at their summer dance show and Claire Sutherland - a parent of a dance school pupil - raised £607.50 by running the Loch Ness marathon.

They have donated the money to the Teddington trust, a group dedicated to supporting the needs of Eddison Miller, cousin of dance school pupils Douglas and Grace Stewart, from Cushnie.

Eddison, who lives in Kent, was diagnosed with the rare genetic condition Xeroderma Pigmentosum in February this year. It is a life limiting condition characterized by extreme sensitivity to UV rays including day light and many types of artificial lighting. Without protection children would expect to see their first skin cancers before the age of ten and around 30% of people with the condition will suffer neurological abnormalities which can include loss of hearing and mobility. There is no cure for XP and total avoidance from UV is the only way to protect sufferers.

The family is currently raising funds to put an indoor garden room onto Eddisons’ home so he can have a safe environment to play with family and friends.
