Members of the royal party at the Braemar Gathering

BRAEMAR was the traditional setting for some fun, games and spectacle again this year as the annual Gathering welcomed around 16,000 visitors, including patron of the gathering, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.

The crowd gave the royal party a warm welcome and the Duke of Edinburgh seemed in good spirits having recently spent five days in hospital.

A record-breaking hammer throw was among the highlights of the heavy events.

Organisers of the event presented the Queen with a unique gift to mark her diamond jubilee.

See this week’s issue of the Piper for report, photographs and full results from Saturday’s event.
