Former MSP for Aberdeenshire West, Mike Rumbles, has been selected as the Lib Dem candidate for the next election.
Party members from across Deeside and Donside elected the local resident to be their candidate for the Aberdeenshire West constituency at the next Scottish Parliamentary elections to be held in 2016.
Mr Rumbles was elected to the very first Scottish Parliament in 1999 and served the people of Aberdeenshire West for 12 years before boundary changes abolished his constituency.
The new boundaries take in Kintore, Huntly and Insch.
He said: “I have been delighted by the very many local people who have asked me to stand again for the Scottish Parliament here in Aberdeenshire.
“It was heartening to receive over 80% of the votes of local Liberal Democrat members during the selection process.”
“I am determined to ensure that once again the people of Aberdeenshire West have a local resident able to represent them in the Scottish Parliament who is willing to fight against the SNP government’s closure of local facilities such as the Aboyne Maternity Unit, their centralisation of local police services and their abject failure after seven years in Government to get on with transport projects around the North-east.”
