Group’s fashion show causes a stir
An audience of over 100 was wowed with an original evening of fashion and music last Thursday.
No fewer than 50 stunning outfits were unveiled at the Banchory British Legion when ten young models strutted down the catwalk, accompanied by a spectacular sound and light display from first year college student Andrew McDonald, and assistant Peter Lamont.
In the weeks leading up to this Youth Industries event, four charity shops in Banchory and Aboyne threw open their doors for 10 young models to select items to create their own statement ensemble complete with accessories. Led by event organiser Isla Elliott, and academy pupil Alex Brown, the team demonstrated the many local fashion opportunities, at a fraction of the usual retail price.
Outfits modelled included both day and evening wear, from casual and elegant to fabulously glamorous. There was a menswear section too, and two young men stole the show with their relaxed and debonair easy style.
One of the highlights was a beautiful handmade duchess silk embroidered dress designed by Katy MacDonald. This young designer has a bright future ahead, and an appreciative audience showed their support.
The show took off at a cracking pace as the models strode confidently down the catwalk with great poise and obvious enjoyment. Musical interludes were provided by Isaac Barnes, Lizzy Thomson and Lana Redpath. This dazzling evening was in the capable hands of the director and compere, Isla Elliott. She expressed her delight at the good turn out and the effort put into the show by all the participants. Isla would also like to thank, Christine Jarvie, Briony Shrieve (Salon Banchory) and Rebbecca Young (Aberdeen College), for their professional help with hair and make up.
Other aspects of local creative talent were demonstrated by young stall holders displaying jewellery, crafts, photography, baking, beauty treatment and makeup, and academy student’s art and design.
Youth industries would like to thank all those who donated raffle prizes, loaned equipment and props or gave of their skills and time, and of course the Banchory British Legion for the superb venue.
It is hoped that Youth Industries can continue to work closely with the community in providing opportunities for young people to become involved in projects which inspire them.
Over £600 was raised and is to be divided between Youth Industries and the four charity shops: Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland: HomeStart: British Red Cross and CVS Aberdeenshire. Anyone with a couple of hours a week to spare is encouraged to support the work of our local charity shops or get involved with the youth venture.
