Lack of a reception in Finzean is just ‘dire’
Councillor Linda Clark has hit out at the lack of phone reception in Finzean after a medical emergency at Tuesday’s Marr Area Committee meeting left the members with no way to call anyone.
The meeting at Finzean hall came to a halt after a man started to feel unwell and complained of chest pains.
Many went outside to contact the man’s wife on their mobiles but could not get a signal.
The public phonebox outside the hall was also unable to accept cash but could make 999 calls.
Cllr Clark said: “There is no question about the fact that there’s a problem, I’ve got three mobile phones and not one of them works in Finzean. I hope things can improve with the phone reception, today showed how vital it is to have a working phone in an emergency.”
“I wanted to contact my husband as unfortunately we’ve had a family member pass away recently but the reception wouldn’t allow it. I’m not saying that it was an emergency but simple calls like that do matter.”
Cllr Clark added: “In rural areas the decision was made to get rid of phoneboxes as everyone has mobiles but what’s the point if you can’t use your mobile or the phoneboxes left? The situation in Finzean is dire.”
A BT spokesman told the Piper: “We have a number of cashless phoneboxes as it is an alternative to taking them away from the community completely. We don’t have to empty cash boxes and the residents can still make emergency calls.”
