Lonach and Ballater bands help John and Isobel celebrate 50th

AN Aboyne couple were given a rousing reception by two pipe bands when they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at the weekend.

The Lonach and Ballater Pipe Bands were both in attendance to mark John and Isobel Morrison's 50 years of marriage.

John was a well-known drum major for the Lonach Pipe Band for over 30 years and he was delighted to hear the sound of the pipes at the surprise party at the Huntly Arms Hotel in Aboyne on Saturday evening.

The couple were married on January 16, 1960 at Elgin Registrar and they both worked at James Jones Timber Merchants in Aboyne. The party had been postponed until June due to Isobel's ill health and the evening coincided with son Brian Morrison's 50th birthday.

He said: "It was a lovely night and I think everyone had a great time, especially my Mum and Dad."

John and Isobel have four children – Brian, Margaret, Calum and Mhairi – as well as eight grandchildren.

And the Aboyne couple's first great-grandchild is expected to arrive this month.
