Music to fund's ears
AN ALBUM of bothy ballads by two Deeside pensioners has been music to the ears of a local charity.
Aboyne's Sandy Donald and Dinnet's Rob McCombie raised a tuneful 1,500 for Friends of ANCHOR, and orders are still coming in for the CD.
The pair recorded 14 tracks, including popular songs 'Auld Meal Mill', 'Lonely in the Bothy' and 'Jeannie McCall' with Sandy, 73 singing, and Rob, 73, accompanying on the accordion.
The gifted Aberdeenshire musicians decided to record and sell their CD to raise funds for Friends of ANCHOR as they have friends and family who have been patients of the ANCHOR unit at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
Sandy said: "We really wanted to show our support of Friends of ANCHOR as we feel the work done by the charity really does make a huge difference to patients attending the unit.
We would like to thank everyone who has bought a CD and also our special thanks to Mrs Isobel McCall, Torphins, who made the recording. We are delighted that we have raised so much for this very worthy cause."
Friends of ANCHOR supports the unit by providing additional care, comfort and support for people attending the unit, and by purchasing non-NHS funded equipment. The charity also funds vital ground breaking cancer research projects at Aberdeen University's Institute of Medical Science, Foresterhill.
Fiona JD Pearson, Friends of ANCHOR fundraising manager, said: "On behalf of the charity we would like to first thank the very talented Sandy and Rob for their tremendous fundraising efforts which has resulted in this huge amount of money and a big thank you to everyone who bought their CD."
