Pageant a "fantastic" experience for Kerri
A TARLAND fundraiser says competing for the title of Miss Aberdeen was a wonderful experience – despite missing out on the top prize.
Many beauty pageant entrants hold ambitions of making the world a better place but Kerri Thomson, 20, already has after raising almost 2,000 for the Anchor Unit in Aberdeen by organising a dance at Glassel Hall.
She also held a 'Pink Day' at her work which raised a further few hundred pounds for cancer research.
Kerri, who works as an assistant contracts coordinator for a safety services company, was contacted by the Scottish director of Miss Great Britain and asked to participate in the Aberdeen heats.
Kerri explained: "I was contacted on Facebook and asked if I would be interested in entering Miss Aberdeen. This came as rather a shock to me as I have never been asked to do anything like this in my life before. After considering it and having lost two stone, I thought why not? I booked in to get a photo shoot done as I have gained so much confidence and I feel fantastic."
Alana Morrison was eventually crowned Miss Aberdeen but Kerri said taking part in the event was a fantastic experience.
She added: "Although I never got placed I was complimented highly for my values and thoughts – as well as my legs! I have been told that I have potential and that I am going to go far."
And Kerri believes she can fill a gap currently left void in the modelling world.
She said: "I have to wear glasses and you never see models wearing glasses. I believe you shouldn't hide the fact that you wear glasses, although I agree that you can see your eyes and face better without them so I have pictures with both on my Miss Aberdeen profile.
"I also wanted to take part to prove that you can do it with a dress size of 12/14 and show other girls that you don't have to be super skinny to take part in this competition. Looks aren't always everything and personality also counts."
Kerri has signed up to run this year's Race for Life and is also intending to organise another big event next year to raise more money for charity.
