‘‘Wood is a sustainable and versatile material and it is good to see a local, family-owned company leading the way in the timber industry.”

Sir Robert praised the hardwork and growth the firm has seen because of it.

He added: “James Jones and Sons is an excellent example of a business which has grown in the North-east to become a significant employer with trade links across the UK and the Republic of Ireland.”

Ian Pirie, joint managing director of the company, said: “It was good to meet with Sir Robert and George.

‘‘We discussed some very relevant forestry issues.

‘‘Particularly, we talked about the need for more planting and for planting targets to be met so that the industry can meet its full potential as it goes forward.”
