Quality kite for K&D

The Mentoring and Befriending Foundation has re-accredited K&D Befriending with the Approved Provider Status.

The Approved Provider Status is a national benchmark for quality standards and good practice in befriending.

Externally verified every three years, the award provides clients, volunteers and funding bodies with the necessary confidence that vulnerable people are safeguarded and that the organisation is well run.

Last month the befriending project for older people was visited by Steve Matthews, chief executive of Mentoring and Befriending Foundation, to assess the project in 12 areas of their work. After spending a whole day scrutinising the project’s work, which included interviewing elderly people who benefited from the service and three volunteers, he concluded that the project continues to work to very high standards. He was particularly impressed with the good practice in volunteer training, and the identification of old peoples’ needs as the basis for monitoring and evaluation.

Chairperson Jessa Stevenson said: “This status was originally awarded to us in 2007.

‘‘The re-accreditation shows that we have not been resting on our laurels but have a commitment to continuous improvement.

‘‘I would like to take the opportunity to thank the befriendees and volunteers who have participated in the assessment.“
