Major road works are expected to cause delays for over six months on the South Deeside road just outside of the Aberdeen City boundary.

Starting from February 1 the B9077 South Deeside Road between Maryculter Bridge and the Aberdeen City boundary will be subject to delays for around 26 weeks.

Work is taking place to install utilities serving the new multi- million pound housing development at Blairs College.

The works will involve laying water mains, telephone ducts and gas mains in both the road and the roadside verge.

An Aberdeenshire Council spokesperson said: “While delays are inevitable, Aberdeenshire Council is working with the contractor involved to ensure these are minimised as far as possible.”

Road closures and restrictions are listed on the Aberdeenshire Council website.

Blairs College, a former junior seminary used for the training of young men and boys to become Roman Catholic priests between 1829 and 1986, is set to see a £115 million development over ten years.

280 homes, an equestrian centre and a golf course are planned for the Maryculter site.

Sixty of the homes are planned as ‘affordable’ with the college itself turned into a hotel and conference centre under the new plans.

The now disgraced Cardinal Keith O’Brien was rector at Blairs from 1980 until 1985.

He now resides in Rome.
