The Heather Trust and GWCT Scotland have announced Deeside’s Finzean Estate as the winner of the second Golden Plover Award.
The prize recognises achievement in moorland management.
Finzean Estate is managed as a family business with a keen interest in conservation and the preservation of a viable, thriving community.
The estate comprises 4000 hectares, with moorland representing just over a third of this area.
Game and wildlife management is undertaken to support a wide range of species, including black grouse, golden eagles, merlin, curlew, red and roe deer.
Local councillor Geva Blackett said: “It’s fantastic news - well deserved too. Moorland managed for grouse brings huge benefits to our wildlife (as this award shows) and to our rural economy - long may the tourists ‘flock’ in!”
Finzean beat off strong competition from Gannochy Estate in Angus and Loch Choire in Sutherland.
