CULTER co-boss Andy Gibson admitted another postponement was hardly the ideal preparation for a cup clash with Dundee side Downfield this Saturday.

The Deesiders were due to travel to Bridge of Don to face Hall Russell United last weekend but the match was called off due to the wet weather.

Gibson says the players can't wait to get back playing when the drier weather returns.

He said:
"All of these games getting called off is a nightmare. The players and the coaches are all desperate for the games to be on.
"There is only so much training you can do without playing a game. We thought the game would go ahead this weekend but unfortunately not. It isn't great to have another free Saturday ahead of our match against Downfield.

"We are all just dying to get back playing but apparently we are scheduled to get more snow later on this week so we might have to wait another week yet."

If the GA Engineering Inter Regional Cup second round tie does get the go-ahead this Saturday, Gibson is looking forward to locking horns with the East Region North Division side.

He said: "I like playing against teams like Downfield as it is a new team for us to pit our wits against. You tend to know all the teams up here really well so it is a nice change to face somebody new. I was speaking to one of the coaches at Broughty Athletic recently and he was telling me their pitch will be a bit of a leveller. It is a tight park and not a great surface for playing football so it will be a bit different to what we are used to at Crombie Park. I'm sure it will be a tough game but hopefully we can go down there and get the win and enjoy the trip back up the road."

However the Crombie Park side look set to be without strikers Allan Smith and Martin Shand for the cup tie against the Spiders at Downfield Park.

Gibson added: "I think Allan Smith is going to be out for at least another month. He got injured in a bounce game we had a couple of weeks ago and Martin Shand is also struggling with a toe injury. But we still have Chris Mountford, Chris Ogboke and Richard Wyness so we have options. At times it has been difficult to leave some of these guys out of the starting XI but we are going to have so many games coming up in a short space of time so we will need people to step in when others get injured."
