THE first training session for Alford Youth Rugby Club (AYRC), held on March 4 in the grounds of Grampian Transport Museum, has been hailed a success.
Despite the cold, 29 boys and girls, from P4 to P7 in the Alford and Strathdon areas, attended. The hour long session was run jointly by AYRC Head Coach Andy Stuart and SRU Grampian Regional Development Manager, Pete Young.
AYRC vice president, Mike Anderson said after the session: "We are very pleased with the turn out, only one of the children here today has played rugby before, so already we have introduced 28 children to the fantastic world of rugby. This would not have been possible if we had not had the enthusiastic involvement of SRU's Pete Young, Aberdeenshire Council's Active Schools Coordinator, Abigail Hay and the backing of Aboyne, Huntly and Garioch Rugby Clubs."
AYRC will meet again on March 11 at the Grampian Transport Museum at 10am, new players are welcome. For further information please telephone Mike Anderson on 019755 64330.
