BANCHORY St Ternan boss Steve Scott felt his side passed up a great opportunity to win at Longside on Saturday.
Scott, who has never guided the Saints to victory at Longside, saw his side waste numerous opportunities in front of goal as they battled to a 0-0 draw.
Scott admitted: "It was a game we could have won as we created some great chances. Unfortunately we hit the bar and had another cleared off the line. On chances created I thought we could have won the match but right at the end we could have lost it when their boy had a great chance but he fell over the ball. As goalless matches go though, it was actually a really good game of football."
Scott was keen for his side to avenge their 4-0 Grill League Cup semi-final defeat to Longside earlier this season.
However the Saints gaffer felt a share of the spoils on Saturday was probably a fair result.
He said: "Before the game you would probably take the point, although we played well enough to win the game. However they also played very well so a point was perhaps about right. We had the more clear-cut chances and if we had a bit more composure in front of goal we could have won it. To go out and play so well against them after losing 4-0 to them in the Grill League Cup was very pleasing. As a manager you are always thinking that it could have been a good three points to win but how would it have felt if they had scored that one right at the end? It would have been really deflating."
The Saints now turn their attentions to third-placed Banks O' Dee who visit Milton Park this Saturday.
Scott envisages the customary battle with the Spain Park side, who will be eager to bounce back after losing 2-1 to Lewis United on Saturday.
"I know they will be smarting after losing last week," Scott said.
"They will be looking to improve on that performance but we will go into the game aiming for three points. We always go into matches looking to win but if you come away with a point against a side like Banks O' Dee you usually won't be too unhappy."
Left-back Lewis Shand returns from suspension for the match, while Ricky Moir is a doubt after picking up a knock against Longside.
Meanwhile, Scott has started to trim the Milton Park wage bill by releasing James Smith and Keiran Graham while placing Neale Henderson on the transfer list.
Scott said letting players go is the toughest part of being a manager.
He added: "James and Keiran weren't getting games so I wanted to be fair on them and give them the opportunity to find a new club. I have a squad of 24 and I think it is the right time to give some of the boys who aren't getting a game a chance to move on. By releasing a few players it also gives you scope to bring a new player in if somebody becomes available who you think will enhance the squad. But telling somebody you are letting them go is the hardest part of management."
