Chance for youngsters to take part in Crathes race

Runners aged between 12 and 15 years old will be able to join in the fun on the day of the Crathes Half Marathon for the first time this year.

Race organisers the National Trust for Scotland have just announced a junior race for the 2012 event which takes place on 15 September.

The two mile race starts at 11.00am, ahead of the main event at noon, and takes young runners on a challenging route through the Crathes Estate. Everyone taking part will get a medal and t-shirt.

Property manager Gareth Clingan said: “This new event is a great addition to the programme for our half marathon.

“We hope to attract some of Aberdeenshire’s most talented young runners for this challenging and beautiful course.”

Places for the junior race are limited to 100 and entry costs £6 per child. Entrants can sign up online at: http://www.nts.org.uk/Events/Crathes-Castle-Garden-Estate/Crathes-Junior-Run-/

The Crathes Half Marathon and Junior Race are being sponsored by international oil company Aker Solutions.

Meanwhile, places for the Half Marathon are going fast, and runners are being urged to sign up soon to avoid disappointment.

Gareth continued: “All the signs suggest that this year’s race, our second Crathes Half Marathon, is going to be bigger and better than ever.

“We hope that the competitors’ training is going well, as this course offers a great chance for a personal best.”

The second Crathes Half Marathon takes place on Saturday 15 September at 12 noon.

Starting at Crathes Castle, the route will take runners out onto country roads to the north and east of the estate grounds.

The mid-way point is almost at another local National Trust for Scotland property – Drum Castle – before the route turns back towards Crathes once more.

Entry costs £25 per person. To register and for more information visit: www.nts.org.uk/Crathes_Half_Marathon
