Culter cruise to victory

CULTER ran out comfortable winners in their final home match of the season against Longside.

There was a good turnout for the match in spite of it clashing with the Culter Gala. The home side went searching for a goal straight from kick off with Stewart heading a Hugh Robertson cross wide and a strong shout for a penalty was turned down when Stott was brought down in the box.

Stewart then turned on the magic before playing in Shand whose cracking shot produced a fine one-handed save from Thomson.

It was then Stott's turn to try his luck but his 30-yard lob was confidently held by the away goalkeeper.

Stott headed a Stewart cross just wide before Longside finally had an effort on target but Farquhar easily held Stainton's curling shot.

McKimmie then saw his close range shot saved by the feet of Thomson before Stott raced through on goal only for Thomson to save at his feet with half time approaching.

Shand's 53rd minute header just looped over the bar before McKimmie poked the ball over from close range. McBain then waltzed past two defenders but fluffed the ball straight into the arms of the thankful Thomson. Culter, however, finally got the goal their play deserved in 73 minutes when Stewart's low cross found George McBain who turned his marker before blasting the ball into the net from 12 yards.

And it was 2–0 a minute later. Richard Wyness beat the offside trap before placing his shot past the helpless Thomson.

In the 86th minute Murray clipped the bar for Longside but the game was over as a contest two minutes later.

Stott did well to send over a low cross and Richard Wyness was on hand to divert the ball home at the front post.
