Culter secure second
CULTER totally dominated in a 4-0 win over FC Stoneywood with victory securing second place in the Superleague.
The Deesiders left with a feeling of justice after a previous encounter between the sides in October had been abandoned with only quarter of an hour remaining and Culter three ahead.
FC Stoneywood's line-up included five former Culter players in Andy Cowell, Marc Small, Steve Rintoul, Gordon Farmer and Duncan Ord. The victory increased Culter's winning sequence to 10 games.
It was a good all round team performance with confidence sky high and plenty of goals. The score didn't flatter Stoneywood and Culter could have scored a few more.
The highlights were a hat-trick from Ryan Stott and very solid performances from Hugh Robertson and young Matthew Robertson on his return from holiday in America.
Stoneywood's only clear chance came in the fifth minute when Brooks broke clear but his flashing left foot drive skimmed the post.
Allan Youngson was prominent in the opening attacks and was combining well with Shand and Stott and efforts from all three could have brought better results.
Culter took the lead after 32 minutes when, after a Youngson corner, the ball broke to Ryan Stott whose shot was missed by everyone and landed in the back of the net.
An industrious Dave Calder started a well-worked move between McKimmie, Youngson and Shand which ended with an overhead kick from Youngson giving Culter a two-goal lead two minutes before the interval.
Peter Stewart replaced Youngson after 55 minutes as Culter pressed for more goals. On the hour mark a good cross from Calder was met by Shand who was unlucky to see the goalkeeper make a fine save.
Chris Ogboke, who had replaced McKimmie, created an opening after 76 minutes for Stott who produced a clinical finish to score Culter's third.
Ogboke was unlucky two minutes later when he rounded the 'keeper but with an open goal at his mercy he chose to chip the ball and missed the target.
Stoneywood were reduced to 10 men when Brooks was sent off for a double booking. Peter Stewart was putting in some good crosses and from a beauty Shand was fouled in the box and Ryan Stott completed his hat-trick from the spot in the 89th minute.
