In a game where Culter could have been five up by half time in this PMAC Superleague encounter, they had to settle for a share of the spoils at Stonehaven.
After a quiet start, the first real chance came in the 21st minute. McAllister broke away and he slid a pass to McBain, who set up Leith but his shot was straight at the Stonehaven goalkeeper.
Three minutes later Youngson’s through ball found McBain who was unlucky to hit the post with his effort.
The Deesiders were now well on top, Youngson’s free kick found Jamie McAllister but he shot past the post.
Culter finally got the breakthrough they deserved around the half hour mark when Adam Wilson fired a free kick past Michael Smith in the Stonehaven goals.
Culter almost doubled their lead in 34 minutes when Leith broke down left wing and crossed to McBain who put his shot past the post.
The one way traffic continued when Shand found McAllister and then McBain, but again he couldn’t test the goalkeeper, shooting over the bar.
Just before half time McBain’s bad luck continued when he fired past the post from Shand’s free kick.
Stoney came out fighting at the start of the second half and in the first minute Hive had an effort cleared off the Culter goal line from a corner.
Culter went close in 50 minutes but Youngson’s free kick went straight at the keeper and a minute later McBain wasted another good chance after good play by Leith.
On the hour mark Culter were unhappy that Sim received a booking for a tame tackle where he appeared to get the ball.
Culter again spurned a chance to double their lead as a Youngson free kick found McAllister who set up Taylor, but Smith in goals did well to save.
In 65 minutes a corner came to McBain with his back to goal and his swivelled shot came off the post which summed up the day he was having in front of goal.
After a spate of bookings which saw both Shands booked for Stonehaven and Reid for Culter, the visitors were made to pay for their missed chances with 15 minutes remaining.
A Stonehaven corner came to Phil Duncan in the Culter box unmarked and he fired past Duffy to make it 1-1.
Shand and McAllister were both booked in the last ten minutes and Robertson come on for Craik as The Deesiders were left to rue their host of missed chances.
Culter’s lead at the top is now down to six points after Banks o’ Dee beat Hall Russell United 3-1 at Spain Park.
