Culter's winning run comes to an end

HALL Russell United maintained their Superleague status by beating Culter and this resulted in relegation for Buchanhaven Hearts.

It was a disappointing defeat to end Culter's spell of ten successive wins, losing to lowly Hall Russell United after beating them comfortably 3–0 at Crombie Park in the McLeman Cup semi final only a fortnight ago.

Hall Russell started the game in determined fashion and McIntosh easily saved Shaw's well struck shot in the opening couple of minutes.

Stewart McIntosh shot weakly past the post after a mazy run before Peter Stewart headed a Stott cross just wide in 29 minutes.

Ten minutes later Mackie found Robertson who crossed to the back post to the unmarked Matthew Whitfield but somehow the defender headed over with the goal at his mercy.

McKimmie then forced Duguid into a save but in 44 minutes the home team went ahead. A big punt from Russell found Peter Shaw who slotted the ball past McIntosh from 12 yards.

Culter started the second half in attack with Shand and McKimmie both unlucky to see efforts deflected past for corners. In a rare attack Shaw forced McIntosh into a fine save.

In the 65th minute McKimmie flicked the ball into the path of Stott but the winger blasted over from close range.

Culter were caught with a sucker punch in the 72nd minute with a carbon copy of the first goal. Peter Shaw picked up a long ball from Mackie before placing the ball past McIntosh from inside the box.

Duguid made a great one handed save to deny Wyness before the same player blasted over the bar from close range.

Duguid made one last save from a McKimmie piledriver as time ran out for Culter.
