Echt hold nerve to lift cup

A SOLITARY strike from Calum Murray was enough to give Echt victory in the final of the Association Cup at Hillhead.

Echt made the brighter start, forcing two corners in the opening five minutes but failing to take advantage from the set-pieces.

Echt almost broke the deadlock after 20 minutes when Murray's header hit the underside of the crossbar and dropped down with the Echt players' appeals that the ball had crossed the line falling on deaf ears.

Dyce almost snatched the opener just before the break when Taylor's header from a corner hit the post before the ball was cleared to safety.

After the break Echt had another lucky escape when Dyce's Yates went on a run down the left before shooting narrowly past the upright.

Echt had the ball in the net after 51 minutes but the goal was disallowed for a foul on the goalkeeper.

The only goal of the game came after 71 minutes when Echt's Calum Murray turned in the 18-yard-box and his fierce shot went past keeper Ord.

Dyce kept the pressure on Echt's defence until the full-time whistle but veteran defender Victor Roger kept his back four well organised as they held on for victory.
