Frustrated
by call offs
For the second week running there was no action for either Banchory St Ternan or Culter because of the frosty weather.
A frozen Milton Park pitch put paid to Banchory’s PMAC Superleague game against FC Stoneywood on Saturday.
Culter’s Crombie Park was deemed as unplayable two days before their league match against Lewis United and although they intended to switch their match to United’s home pitch at the Aberdeen Sports Village, it too was called off because of a frozen pitch.
It was a further blow for Culter as they have still only played nine games in the league and face the prospect of playing three matches a week towards the end of the season.
Andy Gibson, Culter’s co-manager, was disappointed with the postponement and fears the Crombie Park surface may still not be ready in time for this weekend’s visit of Sunnybank in the second round of the North Regional Cup.
He said: “I think the game will be in doubt again this week as the forecast isn’t great.
We have been training indoors instead and everyone is getting frustrated with the call offs.”
The Deesiders survived a scare last month when they came from two goals down to beat Sunnybank 4-2 in the league.
“They were 3-1 up at half time a few weeks back and did give us a scare,” Gibson said.
“They have improved and have a young side with a lot of energy but if the game is on we will look to try and get them on the back foot right away and see how they react if we go ahead early.
“Our form has been patchy this season but now is the time to go on a run like we did last year.”
Banchory St Ternan face Hall Russell United at Denmore Park on Saturday.
Saints boss Sandy Carrol can recall a number of players from injury on Saturday.
He said: “The only positives to come out of the weather situation is that we have a near full squad to pick from with Adam Morrison, Jake Strachan and Alan MacRae all back.
“We have managed to secure indoor training facilities and there should be no problem with our fitness.
“Hall Russells like ourselves lost a couple of influential players at the beginning of the season and have not fully recovered yet, and we have managed to cope that bit better.
“I expect another tough game as they are not a bad side who try and play football but with a near full strength squad to pick from I am confident of getting a result.”
